Grading & Report Cards

Grading cycles are approximately six weeks each, with a total of six grading cycles for the year. Students receive grades in two different weighted categories, as outlined below.

Formative Grades (60%)

Formative Grades are from assignments used during instruction with a goal to improve learning.

Examples of formative assignments include classwork, homework, DOLs, and exit tiickets.

Students should receive a minimum of two formative grades a week for 4 of the 6 weeks, and one formative grade per week for 2 of the 6 weeks in a grading cycle.

Summative Grades (40%)

Summative Grades are from assignments used to evaluate student learning or proficiency after instruction has completed.

Examples of summative assignments include projects, unit assessments, essays, and presentations.

Students should receive a minimum of two summative grades per grading cycle.
